How to Capture Screenshots with OneNote

OneNote functions as an electronic paper notebook. The application is for organizing, collecting and sharing by sorting text notes, photos, handwriting, audios and video snippets and similar content.

The user can also capture or clip screen and save as screenshot. Some basic methods to take screenshots with OneNote are given below:

How to take a screenshot by using the Menu bar in OneNote

Before taking the screenshot of a screen, close or minimize all other windows. Only the window of which you want to take a screenshot will be on your desktop.

  1. Go to the screen of which you want a screenshot.
  2. Open ‘OneNote’, and it will open the last page you had opened. If you want to change the opened page, then click on your preferred page’s tab before going ahead.
  3. Now, click ‘Insert’ tab at the upper-left side of the Window.
  4. Click ‘Screen Clipping’ tab in the opened menu of Insert tab. This is also near the top of the Window.
  5. Click and drag your mouse diagonally over the area you want to take the screenshot. Doing this will select the area, and a box appears on the across the chosen area.

To cancel and select again, press ‘Esc’ button.

  1. Release the mouse button. Now, the screenshot has been saved to currently opened OneNote page.

How to take the screenshot by using Taskbar Shortcut

For taking a screenshot from taskbar shortcut, OneNote taskbar shortcut should be enabled. If it isn’t enabled, then do the following:

  1. Click on ‘File’ tab at the top-right corner of the OneNote window.
  2. Click ‘Options.’
  3. Click ‘Display’ tab.
  4. Check the box of ‘Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar.’

Now, the shortcut is enabled. OneNote shortcut will also be placed into the taskbar notification area when you once open it and didn’t close it manually.

To capture the Screenshot:

Close or minimize all other windows. Only the window of which you want to take the screenshot will be on your desktop.

  1. Open ‘OneNote.’
  2. Go to the screen of which you want a screenshot.
  3. Click on the show hidden icon button (drop up button) to open the notification area.
  4. Right click on the ‘OneNote’ icon in the notification area.
  5. Click ‘Take screen clipping’ from the options.
  6. Click and drag your mouse diagonally over the area you want to take the screenshot. Doing this will select the area, and a box appears on the across the chosen area.

To cancel and select again, press ‘Esc’ button.

  1. Now, release the mouse button. Doing this will copies the screenshot and opens a new window on your screen.
  2. Click plus (+) button on the left of the notebook’s icon and select a notebook to save the screenshot.
  3. Click ‘Send to Selected Location.’ Your copied screenshot will paste into the selected notebook.

To save a screenshot to clipboards, click on ‘Copy to Clipboard’ in the same window.
